This framework aims to develop a rigorous, systems-based model of Marxist-Leninist political regimes, with particular emphasis on the internal dynamics of party governance, elite interactions, and regime stability. The goal is to move beyond normative or moralistic critiques to uncover the structural, organizational, and systemic mechanisms that sustain such regimes amid internal and external shocks.
Marxist-Leninist regimes are characterized by a single-party monopoly on political power, centralized control of the economy, and extensive institutional apparatuses designed to maintain regime legitimacy and control. However, these regimes are neither static nor monolithic; they exhibit complex, adaptive behavior shaped by factional competition, ideological evolution, social pressures, and feedback from the broader political environment.
This framework approaches the regime as a multi-level complex system comprising interrelated subsystems: the party-state organizational structure, decision-making processes, ideological narratives, social constituencies, and the external environment. Modeling these elements requires integrating methodologies such as agent-based modeling, systems dynamics, game theory, and control theory to capture emergent properties such as elite circulation, power redistribution, and regime metastability.
The foundational assumptions underpinning the model are derived from historical materialism, elite theory, and complex systems science, emphasizing causal relations without normative prespcriptions. The model seeks to reproduce key historical patterns—including centralized authority, factionalism, purges, and adaptation to crises—and to provide a platform for simulation and analysis of regime evolution under varied scenarios.
Ultimately, this framework aims to provide a systematic, empirically grounded, and analytically tractable tool for understanding the internal logic and resilience of Marxist-Leninist political regimes, offering insights relevant to political scientists, historians, and computational modelers.
